"These are the best years of your life"
Everyone hears this a bunch of times as they grow up. And the closer you get to adulthood, the more often they hear it. They tell you to hold on as long as possible because "These are the best years of your life".
But are they? I used to think so. When I was younger, I never wanted it to end. I always wanted to be a kid building ridiculously huge things out of legos, running around on the playground and such. When I was younger, I was repulsed at the very thought of being an adult. It was awesome being a little kid.
The older I got though, the more things changed. Once I got to be about 12, I ceased to think I was living the best years of life. The older I got, the clearer it became that virtually everything I was experiencing, I was experiencing for the very first time. Everything was new, and nothing was familiar territory. Nowadays, I tend to live under the mindset that I didn't really start living the best years of my life until after I hit adolescence.
I honestly feel that this past year has been the best of my life thus far. And if this is the best year I ever end up having, I'll be OK with that.
